Visit The Kangaroo Sanctuary
About the Sanctuary
Australia’s first wildlife hospital, The Kangaroo Sanctuary is home to founder Brolga and his family of red kangaroos – the perfect place to have a close-up experience with Australia’s most iconic animals. Brolga first established the Baby Kangaroo Rescue Centre in Alice Springs back in 2005 and then went on to build the Kangaroo Sanctuary in 2011, a 188 acre wildlife sanctuary for rescued orphaned baby kangaroos and adult kangaroos.
The Kangaroo Sanctuary’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned baby kangaroos into the wild as well as educating people to care for these unique animals. The Sanctuary was featured in the ‘Kangaroo Dundee’ documentary made by BBC UK and National Geographic USA in 2013, showing the incredible life of Brolga and his mob of red ‘roos.

About the Tour
The Sanctuary is located in Alice Springs and can only be visited on a pre-booked guided sunset tour. Most of the tours are guided by Brolga himself and you’ll experience a leisurely walk through the 188 acre wildlife reserve while feeding and cuddling baby kangaroos.
The Sanctuary is open Tuesday to Friday only and each guided sunset tour lasts about 2.5-3 hours. Booking is essential, we recommend booking in advance because the tours sell out fast! Bus transfers are included from most hotels, caravan parks and hostels including Jump Inn (please enquire upon booking). Tours are limited to 30 people.
